Distinction Fitness and Education are a newly established business which is delivering Central YMCA Qualifications with an emphasis on quality. Our goal is to introduce enthusiastic, knowledgeable and qualified students to the leisure industry and also to provide existing gym instructors and personal trainers with high quality, affordable developmental training. We will deliver this high quality by only using tutors who are not only well qualified in the industry, but also have industry working experience and suitable teaching qualifications. Our main strategy is to establish excellence in an area where we feel that the quality of training has declined.

Course Content
This qualification covers all of the knowledge and skills you will require to become a instructor. More specifically -gym based level 2 course will teach you:
Anatomy, physiology and Principles of exercise, fitness and health
Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment
Support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity
Planning and Instructing gym-based exercise
Route to Qualification and Assessment Methods
Step 1
Your course will begin 4 weeks prior to the first weekend of your instructing workshop. During this period you will undertake home study based work to cover the modules:
Anatomy, physiology and Principles of exercise, fitness and health
Step 2
You will then attend your four day workshop which will be spread over two weekends. This will enable you to fully absorb the theoretical content of the course and practice the practical elements of the gym instructor course. The workshops will cover:
Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment
Support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity
Planning and Instructing gym-based exercise
During this time you will carry out two multiple choice theory exams and complete two worksheets.
Step 3
Final assessment. Following completion of the four day workshops you will be assessed five weeks later, teaching a variety of gym-based exercises to your client. This assessment will last approximately 60 minutes and will be observed directly by one of our assessors.
Support
As a student of Distinction Fitness and Education you will receive tutor help throughout the duration of your studies. You will have regular contact with your tutor and you may contact them at anytime.
Pre-requisites
There are no formal pre-requisites for this qualification however you will need some experience of using a gym. You will also need to be over 16 in order to complete the practical assessment.

This qualification is worth 20 points with the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs).

Route to Qualification and Assessment Methods
Step 1
You will be required to attend a two day workshop which will cover the nutritional elements of the personal trainers award. The workshop will cover:
Applying the principles of nutrition of a physical activity programme
On week 10 of your course you will be required to complete one multiple choice theory exam (70% pass) and hand in nutrition case study
Step 2
You will then undertake 4 weeks home study based work to cover the modules:
Anatomy and physiology for exercise and health
Step 3
You will be required to attend five workshops which will be spread over two weekends to allow you to fully absorb the theoretical content and practice the practical elements of the advanced instructor course. The workshops will cover:
Delivering and programming personal training with customers
Client lifestyle and fitness testing and assessment

Final Assessment (Week 18).It will last approximately 90 minutes and will be observed directly by one of our assessors.
Assessments will include:
Undertaking a variety of physical measurements from your client and correctly reporting the data
Undertaking a variety of training approaches (cardiovascular and resistance training) with your client
Submission of 12 week case study and VIVA (professional discussion)
